The property we bought is a little over 7 acres, located in the quaint little town of Mount Dora, Florida. This is an area we love because you are far enough out of Orlando but you are still close to everything. And my best friend lives down the street!!!!
As you see, it is pretty heavily wooded.
So how do you decide where to put the house???? The property is 237′ x 1313′. We want to be far enough off the road and have a perimeter of woods in the front. But we didn’t want to be so far back that we have to pay a lot to run the utilities. Also, we wanted to try and save as many trees as possible. It’s a little nerve wracking trying to decide because you can’t pick up the house and move it.
There was an overgrown path into the property so my DH and I walked down it trying to find a clearing.
We chose an area that had the most dead trees. Then we began the process of clearing the area out more. Making sure we only cut the trees we knew had to go.
The surveyors came out to mark the property line. Well, apparently it’s a little hard to measure straight walking through the woods. We were off a little bit, actually the width of the house from where we thought we wanted the house. . . but overall I think we estimated pretty good. Now that decision has been made, we can bring out the big boys and let the real clearing begin!!!!!
