This will be our 4th time building a home and each time is more exciting than the last.
I started looking at house plans over 5 years ago. The last house we built was massive and for me a little over the top. But it was going to be our retirement plan. Our goal was to build it, live there 5 years then cash out. We would then have enough money to build our “retirement” home mortgage free with money leftover to live on. As Robert Burns says in “To A Mouse”, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. The economy tanked and so did we. It was hard seeing your plan go down the drain but fast forward to 6 years later and we on our way to our dream!!!!
Choosing a blueprint
I started looking at house plans 5 years ago and couldn’t find exactly what I wanted. I knew I could modify any plan. So I picked out about 5 that I really liked and started making a pros and con list. Then I came across this plan Morgan Ridge
This was it!!!! I like everything about it (for awhile) but the more I looked at it, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted. We could have hired an architect to draw something up but I enjoy the designing too much. If I knew AutoCad, I would be dangerous. (AutoCad is a commercial software application for 2D and 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting).
I kept searching. The stars aligned and I found the perfect plan. Well, not exactly, it needed some tweaking. I changed the master bath layout. Added a guest bath, a workshop and enlarged the garage, which I’m soooo excited about. I will have a place to work on all my projects and I can do it in my pajamas if I want!!!!
With all that said, here is the plan!!!!
It’s a one story craftsman style house that has an open floor plan, ship lap, brick wall, barn door and wood floors!!! At least that is what I see when I look at the plan. I could go on and on about the vision in my head but with your help, we will do that room by room.
So now that the plans are ready, it’s time to submit for permits and start clearing the land!!!!
